On good days, when my brain hasn’t turned to mush by the fake news or social media, I find myself thinking that maybe we’ve hit bottom. After so much bad, things can only get better. Right?
But, on bad days – which seem to outnumber the good ones – I just try to adapt to the “New Normal”. Why not? I’ve already enjoyed a long, fruitful life. Why let things beyond my control spoil the time I have left on earth?
Subversion of Western Culture
Then, along comes a book like Michael Walsh’s The Devil’s Pleasure Palace: The Cult of Critical Theory and the Subversion of the West[i]. After reading it, it’s impossible to ignore what’s currently going on in America.
According to Walsh, today’s political chaos is just the latest front in a war that has persisted since the Fall of Man.
Normally, I don’t reference Pope Francis in my blogs, but it’s hard to resist doing so when even a left-of-center pontiff gets it right every so often. When he was still Cardinal Bergoglio, the future Pope correctly instructed his followers that Satan’s plan has never changed. He has always subverted mankind’s search for the truth “by sowing destruction, division, hatred and calumny among us”.[ii]
Michael Walsh makes same point but specifically implicates cultural Marxism:
“For the taboos of our culture are also its totems, and the political arguments that rage around them are symptomatic of both disease and good health, of infection and immunity. They are not simply battlefields in the larger contemporary war – they are the culture war, a war that has been raging since the Garden of Eden but that manifests itself today in the unceasing attack of cultural Marxism (which molts and masquerades under may names, including liberalism, progressivism, social justice, environmentalism, anti-racism, etc.) upon the Christian West.”[iii]
Thus, what Americans now call the “New Normal” is just another iteration of the age-old lie meant to deceive us and draw us away from God’s true purpose for our lives.
What Americans Really Voted for in 2020
In 2020, when a corrupted electoral process installed Joe Biden as the country’s 46th president, the corporate media said Americans were only asking for a “return to normal”. Admittedly, Donald Trump did not represent normalcy – just the opposite. Those who voted for him in 2016 were not only voting against his opponent, but also against two decades of the Leftward drift that had shaken American society to its core. I’m quite certain that the return to normal Americans were seeking in 2020 did not include record inflation, the risk of nuclear war with Russia or China, open borders, rampant crime, nationally endorsed predation in our schools and federally-mandated participation in experimental vaccine trials. But that’s what we got – and more.
Trying to Build Utopia Without God
So, how did we get here? For a century or more, the Left has been seeking to build a utopian society that excludes God. By rejecting as “unscientific” everything they consider myth, legend or – worst of all – religion, they have convinced a growing percentage of the U.S. population that the elitist members of the UniParty are the only ones smart enough to manage everyday life in modern America. They have asked everyone else to replace centuries of Western enlightenment with their worldview – one that is supposedly based on “settled science”.
Assume for the sake of argument that America’s intelligentsia do know a thing or two about climate change, pandemics, abortion, gun violence and the other shibboleths of the Leftist Agenda. The price we’ve been asked to pay for their proposed solutions has created a moral and economic crisis of epic proportions. Not only have they imposed a fascism of the mind meant to discourage all independent thought, but they have also gaslighted Traditionalists (those who uphold the values of faith, family and patriotism) with their bogus claim that only they can rescue democracy from tyrannical despots. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Peddling Evil
All that the Left has ever peddled is evil. As Michael Walsh further explains:
“By declaring whole swatches of argumentation invalid, the Left seeks to erect a Devil’s Pleasure Palace around itself, a world of illusion peopled with fake monsters, an anti-family house of horrors which is directly antithetical to the U.S. Constitution.”[iv]
For several generations, radicals have undermined almost every level of American government with their intentionally warped view of right and wrong. If this is the “return to normal” Leftists were hoping for when they elected Joe Biden, the past seventeen months have proven that this kind of “normal” bears no relationship to the world most of us live in.
If the Right ever regains control of government, its first order of business must be to replace the Left’s “New Normal” with good, old-fashioned Reality.
Living in the Real World
People should feel okay again about trusting their own senses and intuition. If something looks wrong or if reason tells them something doesn’t work, they should feel free to point that out without fear of being ostracized, doxed or worse. No one should have to apologize for saying something is morally wrong – no matter which God they do or do not worship. Demanding election integrity shouldn’t cause anyone to wind up in solitary confinement for trespassing and other minor violations of law. Asking public school teachers to refrain from sharing their adult sexual fantasies with students (at least until the kids are old enough to care) shouldn’t be seen as an unreasonable restraint on someone’s sexual preference or identity.
Despite life’s ups and downs, dealing with Reality has been a life skill that served humans fairly well for thousands of years. After all, Reality seems to have a way of sneaking up and hitting us in the back of the head, especially in times of crisis.
Those on the Right have at least one clear advantage over those who prefer to live in the Leftist metaverse. Regardless of demographic identity or what they’ve done with their lives, those willing to live in the Real World and be accountable to a body of moral wisdom are much more likely to survive – if not thrive – than those deluded by the unholy psychodrama promoted by those on the Left.
